Mushere Forest

Dulu area of Kadim in Mushereland

Overview

Mushere Forest (Dulu area of Kadim in Mushereland) has a total area of 40-50 square kilometers. The aim of this project is to provide effective protection for one of Northern Nigeria’s most severely threatened habitat: forest. The area has been selected because damage to the forest is less severe than in many other areas, and difficulty of access makes protection more feasible there than elsewhere. So far as is currently known, neither fauna nor flora contain species not also found in southern Nigeria, but on a regional level many species are probably threatened, including the Mona Monkey Cercopithecus mona and Buff-throated Sunbird Chalcomitra adelberti. The majority of the conservation area is Southern Guinea Savannah which is in good condition; though less threatened nationally, such habitat is no longer common around the Jos Plateau.
